Protected Area Management
My specialist area is in walking track (trail) management.
I have over 20 years experience with the Tasmanian Parks
and Wildlife Service in a variety of roles from trackworker, Ranger,
Senior Ranger, plus track and asset management expertise. The links on my "Parks
page" are items of interest that may never make it to the "official
Parks website".
I had the privilege to attend an International
Rangers Congress at Wilsons Promontory. If you are a Ranger and your local
association is not a member of the International Rangers Federation (IRF)
then I suggest they consider membership to help support Rangers worldwide.
Check out the links to the Australian
Rangers Federation, the International
Rangers Federation and the IRF
Consultancy.
In particular, the IRF
and the ARF
have on-line forums where you can ask for assistance on any matter
relating to protected area management. Don't reinvent the wheel - ask your
colleagues in other countries how they may have solved the problems that
you are facing. Also consider donating funds or time to the "Thin Green Line"
project which is supporting the families of rangers killed on the
frontline of conservation.
