An excellent and much needed website. I visited the Sorell historical society in Feb this year, when I was in Tas for the Bi-Centenary, and they were hoping to get some computer literate person help them establish a web-site. They had a lot of info, but no expertise in presenting it in a manner that was easy to access. This site goes a long way to address their problem: could the school help perhaps? (I'm an ex-teacher, I know that projects like these are usually welcomed by the IT dept. :) ) Congratulations, Carol Brill.

- Andrew Goodwin and Lydia Munro had land at Clarence Plains soon after their arrival from Norfolk Island, and their daughter Sarah , with her husband
Benjamin Briscoe, had a farm next to them. Their daughter, Mary Ann, had a house in Sorell, at least from 1830 to the mid 1860s, on the corner diagonally opposite the old school house, where the newsagency now stands. I've absolutely heaps of info. on this family, if you're interested further, including photos of the house in question. You can contact me at cbrill@southcom.com.au

- Sue, I contributed a couple of those names for convicts but forgot to tell you about two great books I bought last year which dealt with some of those convicts - They were called Australia's Heritage 1 The First 50 years and Heritage 2 The Next Fifty Years written by Kev Richardson. It covers the convicts Andrew Goodwin of Scarborough, Lydia (Letitia) Munro of Prince of Wales, William Woolley of Calcutta, Benjamin Briscoe of Calcutta, Mary Rohan/Roan of Canada 4, Mary Ashby Bunker Lady Castlereagh and Adam Newit of Asia5 and their descendants. This would be a great read for your students. Also Elizabeth Cumming(s) arrived on the Pitt. in 1792.

They had Emma BOYD & she married Adam WHITCOMBE. Adam Whitcombe is a son of James WHITCOMBE (convict) & Matilda Ann nee PRICE, and is therefore a brother of my grandmother Clara Susannah WHITCOMBE. All this happened in and around Evandale. What a small world it is - you never know who you are related or connected to.

The William Hambly listed wasn't a convict but a carpenter on the Sirius. He married convict Mary Springham (Lady Penhryn) on Norfolk Island. Their daughter, Elizabeth married the John Duncombe, the convict you already have listed with ship details. Their history has been covered in Trish Wood's "The Convict and the Carpenter" which brings in Jane Horton/Gill and Richardson family.
Thomas Pennington is the 2nd husband of Susannah Welch/Wiggins. There is a section on him on a book I recently purchased (but haven't read) titled "The Wiggins of Wiggins Town Van Diemen's Land".
Good site - keep up the good work.
